- An artist, whose dream is to capture this big country on canvas before it disappears forever, rides into Laramie. When Dan finds out the Brock gang is heading to town just because of him, he does his best to keep him and his dream alive.
- The talented painter Frederick Jameson and his companion Tall Horse arrive in Laramie on a quest to paint the west for posterity. Jameson in his beret proves equal to the task of taking care of himself when local ruffians provoke him. Lily after meeting him finds the story of his life interesting. Jameson shows Troop and Lily a series of paintings he has done. Lily wants to buy one but Jameson will only give her one but she refuses to take one for free. Troop recognizes a gang leader in one painting. Later in the early morning Jameson brings Lily a covered painting to keep until he returns later. Troop and Tall Horse force Jameson to stay in Laramie as he tries to leave to prevent trouble in Laramie. Troop had received notification the gang is heading toward Laramie after escaping from prison and upon further investigation learns Jameson help send them to prison by painting the picture Troop noticed. Troop, McKay, and Tall Horse attempt to protect Jameson when the gang invades Laramie looking for him but Jameson is killed. When Lily uncovers the painting Jameson left her, she finds it is of herself. It is mounted behind the bar and is prominently displayed for the rest of the series.—Anonymous
