"Lights Out" was a very early horror anthology television show. While I love anthology shows, unfortunately most of the episodes I've seen have been sub-par. Apart from a few winners like "Dead Man's Coat" and "The Meddlers", I have seen little reason to download more shows from archive.org.
Because "The Meddlers" was a show set in the South and had a lot to do with superstitions and the like, I was hoping I'd enjoy "Silent Supper"....but that was not the case. The show begins with a young lady consulting with an old witch in what appears to be modern Louisiana or some such place. It seems that all the neighboring folks are quite superstitious and think the lady can predict the future and perform hexes and the like. The woman is hoping the old hag can help her see who her husband-to-be will be--and so she will be invited to a so-called 'silent supper' to learn the truth. I am sure many folks would be offended about the show's portrayal of the American South. My problem was much different--it just wasn't scary or well written. In fact, it felt a bit like "The Beverly Hillbillies" if Jethro was insanely evil! Pretty inconsequential and silly.
