A MAN CALLED SHENANDOAH – "Ropes End" – 1966 ROPES END – 1966 - This is the eighteenth episode of the 1965-66 western series, A MAN CALLED SHENANDOAH. The series starred Robert Horton. Horton is a man who suffered the loss of his memory after receiving a head wound. He is now searching the west for clues as to his identity.
Horton is a passenger on a stagecoach crossing the Arizona desert country. The only other passenger is Susan Oliver. She is going to visit her father who is the local judge, Russell Thorson.
The stage pulls into a way station for a change of horses and some chow. What they find is that gunmen, Michael Ansara and LQ Jones have taken the station over. They have a brother in jail who has been sentenced to hang by Judge Thorson.
Needless to say they intend to use Miss Oliver as a bargaining chip to have their brother freed.
This of course does not happen as Horton throws a monkey wrench in the pair's plan. Shots are exchanged and Jones and Ansara are soon added to the Boot Hill population.
This is again, a quick and to the point episode of a fine western series.
The story was by veteran writer, Daniel B. Ullman. Ullman did the story or screenplay for films such as, SMUGGLER'S GOLD, KANSAS PACIFIC, FORT VENGEANCE, 7 ANGRY MEN, WICHITA, AT GUNPOINT, CANYON RIVER, THE FIRST TEXAN and A GOOD DAY FOR A HANGING. (B/W)
