The title is based upon a quote from William Shakespeare's play "As You Like It": (Act II, Scene VII): "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."
When this episode was first broadcast, guest star Richard Dawson was still playing the decidedly nicer Newkirk on Hogan's Heroes (1965).
Murray Matheson, who played Grantley the socialite jeweler, was just a couple years away from joining the cast of Banacek (1972), which like McCloud was a spoke of the NBC Mystery Movie wheel.
The opening credits say: Directed by Russ Mayberry and Bruce Kessler.
Richard Dawson would go on to become the emcee of the game show, Family Feud.
