The photograph Crockett shows of Elvis during his dating video is the first time his pet alligator has been mentioned on the show since El Viejo (1986). Evidently, based on what Crockett says, Elvis is still alive and living on the St. Vitus Dance, but he would never been seen or mentioned again on the show (not counting a flashback to Whatever Works (1985) shown in A Bullet for Crockett (1988) and an appearance during the end credits montage of Freefall (1989)). What happens to Elvis is never explained.
This is Iman's second appearance on Miami Vice. Previously she appeared as another character in Back in the World (1985).
The plot bears similarities with Sea of Love (1989), filmed about seven months later (May to September of '88). Both involve a cop going undercover on multiple dates to discover the killer.
This is the third of four episodes to be directed by Don Johnson. He would direct one episode in each of the show's final four seasons.
