A hard-working single mother, whose son has chronic medical issues, supports herself and her son as a clerk in a department store. She is maltreated by both customers and supervisors, and yet maintains a sweet disposition and remains courteous and helpful. On a particularly challenging day, she comes to the attention of an anonymous benefactor. Soon she finds herself on the receiving end of one million dollars. After her disbelief subsides, and she is convinced that it is not just an advertising gimmick, she accepts the funds. But soon she discovers that the award she has received could threaten her relationships. She resolves the conflict between her luck and her love in a surprising way--she rejects the money to be able to give her son something he needs more than money: a male role model and a move to a new and healthier location.
