Scots Harry scores again
ArtVandelayImporterExporter28 September 2023
Small-time street crud Scots Harry pops up again. This time to blow a safe in a sewing shop so that the owner could claim the insurance.

Naturally, he screws it up. Even ends up bandaged like Frankenstein's monster.

Arthur and Terry are in the middle of it, of course.

Hot on the trail are Chisholm and Jones.

Somewhere along the way the producers of Minder figured out that if they kept the caper straightforward and focused on the humor, while keeping the pace up, they had an unbeatable formula.

This episode in particular glides along so perfectly that by the time it wraps and the credit rolls it actually surprised me it was already over.

At this point of TV's perfect series, my only question is why an American network never stole the idea and made a U. S. version.

Return of the invincible man aka Scotch Harry

Minder was always at its best when it involved petty underworld characters and even better when they were recurring ones. Scotch Harry from series 1 returns minus his simple pal Stan but ready to do The 'bizzo' with his hero Arthur . Here Arthur organises a little safe cracking gang with Harry and two Chas and Dave lookalikes the Beasleys and it obviously is a disaster. A cat and mouse caper with the local police ensues and the episode has some fine comedic scenes that work well due to the fine performances of all the actors. No punch ups but not even required , this is a brilliant episode. The scenes with scotch Harry are again just perfect and he should and could have been used many more times than he was given how well he jelled with Arthur and Terry .
