Warning: Spoilers
I owned an Ice cream store during the 1980's. I had some renovations done on my shop during the off season by a black man named Carl. He moved some cabinets and rewired my freezers for the up coming summer season. I paid him handsomely and also gave him some free ice cream for his family. Six months later Carl came in and asked me how I was doing and I said fine. I was happy to see him and tell him the freezers are working great and I'm saving on the air conditioning costs. Carl looked puzzled but I paid no attention to his confused facial expression. I asked Carl what he wanted. He ordered about twenty dollars worth of ice cream. I was so pleased with his work he performed earlier I said to him. "it's on the house." Carl offered me money but I wouldn't take it. A few days later Carl came back to my store and said, "How are the freezers working? He went on about not seeing me earlier and I said, "You were in here three days ago, don't you remember?" Carl said,"That's impossible . I've been out of the country for three months and got home yesterday." I thought to myself, Who was this other guy who is the spitting image of Carl? I asked Carl if he had a twin brother and he answered emphatically, "NO!" A clear case of mistaken identity. This episode is so absurd, so ridiculous it worked for me. There are time and space issues at the end of this episode. I don't know the distance between Doctor Frankenstein's hotel room and Happy Valley Lodge but I'm sure Johann and Lily Munster broke all kinds of Olympic track and field records, even if Lily drove along side Johann on the way back to the hotel, parking spaces would be a problem but I have to convince myself it's only a television show. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Lily Munster (Yvonne De Carlo) is all excited about a romantic weekend at Happy Valley Lodge with husband Herman (Fred Gywnne). Herman receives a phone call from a Dr. Frankenstein IV (John Abbott) who claims to have found one of his grandfathers reject monsters somewhere in the German countryside wondering about causing havoc, frightening young maidens and terrifying the populace as Herman Munster relents, "Well I did a Little of that myself before I got married." The good Doctor brings over Johann who is the spitting image of Herman. Johann is uncivilized and makes grunts and moans. Quickly Grandpa (Al Lewis) and Herman try to educate the lost beast. Herman pulls out the first grade reader as he tries to teach Johann how to speak. Grandpa and Herman leave Johann under raps from Lily as he's held in the dungeon below. Herman and Grandpa leave Johann alone. Lily mistaken, sees Johann thinking its Herman with a sore throat as they drive away for a romantic weekend. When Herman and Grandpa discover what has happened they meet with Dr. Frankenstein who telepathically calls for Johann to return . Meanwhile Lily and Johann are eating fruit on the coach at the lodge. Lily still thinks it's Herman. What's to follow is great comedy. RUN RUN RUN! The writing of Joe Connolly and Bob Mosher was right on the money. This script was hilarious with great insults from Al Lewis. This episode directed by Gene Reynolds captures the reaction of Lily when she discovers that she was with another monster instead of her real one. She is super creep ed out as she runs into Johann's closet used primarily for his bad behavior. The Doctor begs Lily to come out of the closet, "You can't stay in there. It's Johann's closet."
