When Salvatore Gambini ( Eli Wallach ) is opening a bottle of Valpolicella for Jessica, he tells her he brought the grapes over from the Barolo wine region in Italy. Valpolicella is, in fact, a wine region of Italy, between Lake Garda and the Adriatic coast. Barolo is about 200 miles west of Valpolicella.
As an Italian wine making family with Italian wines, Salvatore Gambini ( Eli Wallach ) would not make "Bordeaux" wine ( French varietals). He would have Italian varietal wines in his cellar.
Just before his tumble, Tony is called "Paulie" by his grandfather, Salvatore Gambini ( Eli Wallach ).
Even though the family bears an Italian name and speaks Italian as a native language, Salvatore says he is from Northern Italy. Northern Italians speak German as a native language and bear German Surnames, from the days when that part of Italy was part of the Holy Roman Empire.
