Scottish charm turns Fran's head and gets her in trouble.

Fran Drescher's obvious love of the soaps casts Scottish heartthrob Ian Buchannan ("General Hospital", "The Bold & the Beautiful") as Fran's newest beau who charms everybody but Maxwell and yet horrified when he turns out to be a jewel thief. Buchanan is hysterically funny as he tries to up Maxwell at every turn. The scene in the jewelry store is completely over the top, as is Sylvia's reaction to Fran's doubts and the big potato on Gracie's plate. Gracie is very funny while trying to play therapist which leads to an actual therapy session where the laughs are instantly taken over by Grandma Yetta. The main plot doesn't really involve Buchanan, basically left unresolved.

Dopey Episode

This episode was written by Diane Wilk, not one of the better television writers. Within this shoddy teleplay, reference is made to 'Winchells, a California donut chain. Since the 'Nanny' takes place in NYC, it's unlikely Fran Fine would have referenced it. Winchells does not exist on the East coast. Sloppy writing for sure. Also, 'CC' mentions the Padres instead of a NY baseball team which would have been more likely. It's amazing that the script supervisors or other members of the crew did not catch these two highly unlikely references.
