- [a letter mysteriously falls into Blackie's hand and he reads its contents]
- Blackie: [breaking the fourth wall] Well, what have we here? "Everything sparkles - from the shimmering sequins on my dress to the crystal champagne glasses Al and I drink from." Hohoho. "It's like a dream, Ivy". Dream? More like a deadly illusion if you ask me. "Come and visit, your loving sister, Fay". Oh, poor Fayzie. I wonder if she remembers issuing this invitation. She'd just as soon forget. You suppose the Café will let her forget? I don't. I think our Fay is about to get the biggest surprise of her...
- [pauses]
- Blackie: ...big surprise.
- Fay Peronivic: How could you bring my sister here?
- Blackie: *I* did not bring her here.
- Fay Peronivic: Okay. So the *café* brought her here.
- Blackie: No, Fay. Your letters brought her here.
- Fay Peronivic: Those were innocent letters to my kid sister.
- Blackie: Innocent? You told her you were living in luxury with the man of your dreams. See, the problem is, Fay, that there were a string of dream men, each one worse than the one before.
- Fay Peronivic: Okay. You're right... but I didn't want to disillusion her.
- Blackie: Disillusion her? You two ought to write a book together - "Dangerous Men and How to Find Them".
- [Victoria is driving recklessly]
- Frank Nolan: Do you always drive like this?
- Victoria: Not usually, but I don't have time to get stopped. See, I've got kinda an emergency. I had a dream I had to come and get one of my daughters.
- Frank Nolan: Daughters?
- Victoria: Yeah, Ivy. She did a reckless thing. She ran off to find her sister. I warned her not to, but did she listen? Did either of them ever listen!
- Frank Nolan: Do you ever listen to them?
- [Ivy and Jesse discover Fay was living in a flophouse apartment]
- Jesse: Let me see if I got this straight. I come all the way from Tulsa. I'm thinkin', "Hang in there, Jesse. Maybe there's something to it. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt." Where do I wind up? Here? This? No. No, this is not happenin' to me. No way.
- [Jesse roughly grabs Ivy]
- Jesse: You look at me when I'm talkin' to you, girl! Now I trusted you. I believed in you.
- Ivy: I'm sorry. I didn't know.
- Jesse: You are *sorry*.
- Jesse: [throwing her childhood pictures at Ivy] You look about as dumb as you turned out.
- [the café's television set reveals Frank unconscious in an alley]
- Blackie: Duty calls.
- [Blackie disappears]
