- Working alone late at night, a marine salvage company owner grabs a revolver to follow gigantic footprints out of his office to a dock, where a frogman croaks him with a spear-gun. His co-owner, a huge, hulking frogman, claims he's too upset to talk to anybody - except his lawyer. A meek insurance adjuster hires Peter Gunn to solve a series of mysterious riverside robberies, so Gunn enlists a competing salvage diver, whose lily pad is a swinging tiki lair, complete with seductive hula dancers.—David Stevens
- Season 1 Episode 21 Scuba Prologue: Moffat emerges from his office, reaches for a pistol from a cabinet drawer, enters the backroom, gun drawn looking for the cause of a noise he heard, when he notices unusually large foot prints leading to a hinged floor entry leading to the below dock and water. He climbs down to the dock level, a man surfaces from the water, shoots Moffat with a spear gun and ducks back under water. At Mother's, Insurance agent Leeds hires Pete to recover stolen merchandise and help solve the murder of Mr. Moffat, must have detailed expenses accompanying final bill. Pete greets Mrs. Jackie Garvin of Moffat & Garvin, she is all over Pete, as Garvin enters his office claiming he has to talk to the police not a PI, Jacoby comes in the office with a warrant taking Mr. Garvin downtown; Pete tells Jackie he didn't see the wedding ring in the dark, shade drawn. Pete goes to see Captain Joe, meets Mrs. J, he is napping in the hammock in their scuba shop. Mrs. J supplies Pete with the name Jeff Jefferson, an excellent scuba diver running a business just down the street. Jeff's business is employed with sarong clad beauties, there's Olga, Midge and Dottie and Jeff is for hire, if he is interested, per Pete. Pete joins Jeff under the shop wanting to see Garvin's backroom, entering from the water in scuba gear. They surface underneath Garvin's, come up in the warehouse, Jeff plays lookout, Pete looks around the office, Garvin comes in, Jeff and Pete leave, wet footprints behind. Pete goes back to the scuba shop, buys scuba equipment, memorizing a map where to store something at the bottom of the river, thanks to Mrs. J. Pete swims along the river bottom, finds hidden items, takes one of the items to Jacoby's office, a small statue worth plenty from a stolen art shipment, gone for a year and a half. Jeff is Jacoby's scuba diver, needing the spot where Pete recovered the statue as Jeff and Pete embark, Garvin is watching through binoculars. Garvin sets out with a scuba partner, too. There is a confrontation underwater, Jeff cuts Pete's snorkel hose, fights off the rest of the divers. Turns out Jeff is the bad guy, Garvin the good guy, as the struggle underwater proved out. Garvin sits with Pete at Mother's, Garvin explains the details of the heists from Jeff. Jacoby is holding Jeff under suspicion of murder and stolen goods. Pete introduces Mike Garvin to Edie, as the man who saved Pete's life. Edie asks about the paperwork he has, Pete tells her it is expenses, detailed for Leeds.
