Blonde Beauty Battles Bevy of Bradley Babes
darryl-tahirali27 February 2022
Fetching blonde Leslie Parrish guest-stars as Jacqueline Moran (a play on novelist Jacqueline Susann), the young, famous author of the bestselling, risque novel "Sex Is Here to Stay" (a nod to Susann's notorious "Valley of the Dolls") who is looking for a secluded place to finish her next novel. What better location than the Shady Rest Hotel, where she becomes "The Tenant," wowing Janet and the Bradley girls with her glamour and celebrity?

However, Jacqueline's need for peace and quiet and the hotel's daily bustle soon clash, and when it transpires that Jacqueline had been tipped to the Shady Rest by Steve during his recent stint as an Air Force Reservist at California's March Air Force Base, where she had been doing research and had been charmed by him during their tour of the base, that brings out the green-eyed monster in Steve's wife Betty Jo, with Billie Jo and Bobbie Jo rallying to her defense--and with Steve soon in the doghouse (AKA Uncle Joe's room).

Despite the initial hints of salaciousness, principal series writers Charles Stewart and Dick Conway keep the overall tone tame, although apparently some big-city decadence has reached rural Hooterville as both Billie Jo and Bobbie Jo are enthusiastically familiar with "Sex Is Here to Stay"--to Uncle Joe's alarm and dismay--and Billie Jo vamps suggestively in support of Betty Jo. Once her premise is introduced, Parrish recedes into the plot save for a sexy outfit or two that captivates Sam Drucker as "The Tenant" tries to balance burgeoning adult attitudes with the series' rustic innocence and charm.
