"Death blossom mode!" Warning: Spoilers
It's so cool how Matrix can control that badass gun with his M-emblazoned cybernetic eye! Excellent Robocop reference when he puts it back in its holster! Matrix is overjoyed after they emerge from a game into an Arabian village-like system that actually has connections to the web and therefore possibly Mainframe, and soon 'bumps' into a bloodshot-eyed binome that steals his keytool on the orders of strange violent guardians who invade the port soon after in search of Matrix. And while Andraia tries to secure them a ship from a beautiful silver sprite who I reckon is a dead ringer for Seven Of Nine, Matrix pursues the thief into a bar that's rather similar to the Mos Eisley Cantina, where he encounters Captain Turbo, the Action Man-looking head of the Guardians who he at first attacks because it was the Captain who ordered the destruction of Mainframe in order to contain the threat of the toxic web creature some time back, which started the chain of events that led to Bob being lost in the web and eventually Enzo being lost in the games. However the two become allies after Turbo informs him that because time moves much faster in the games than in systems, Matrix may still be able to save his home and family if he can reach it in time. He also reveals the startling development that since Matrix has been gone a new powerful threat to the entire net has emerged in the form of a supervirus who has corrupted and enslaved all of the guardian collective apart from Matrix and Bob, but we won't be seeing her for a little while yet! A lot of the atmosphere of this one is like an old fashioned western, particularly the hilariously tongue in cheek tense scene where Andraia has a faceoff with a female green skinned guardian. It's pretty violent when Andraia shoots her fingernail spines into the guardian's neck, you can even catch a rare glimpse of blood in the show as they hit her in the throat! If you didn't know that it only paralyses the victim it really does appear that the guardian is killed. Also the more mature interactions between Matrix and Andraia as a couple, like when he's about to passionately kiss her at the beginning or when she occasionally calls him "lover", is rather forward and gives their relationship a little more adult depth. It ends with Matrix and Turbo defeating the corrupted guardians together, and after Turbo leaves a friend Matrix sits down at the wrecked bar to finish the drink he had to leave behind. They are still without a ship to guide them but then in walks the pirate captain binome Capacitor and hopefully the solution to their problem. I wouldn't call this a favourite of mine but the show had hit such a wonderful stride at this time that even the lesser episodes are good and this is another solid entry that ends one chapter of the third season and starts the beginning of another act that takes things into outer space..sorta! More like Outer web!! Later!
