"In Memoriam" guest stars Agnes Moorehead as Martha Lassiter, proud matriarch in a town that honors the memory of her son every year, killed during the war while fighting for the Union. The date of his death was August 7 1863, and present that same day was Johnny Yuma, who dutifully recorded what happened, and keeps his promise to the dying soldier to offer up a story of bravery in the line of duty to his mother, though far from the truth. Initially, Martha receives the rebel warmly and offers him a job as a ranch hand, but her reasons are not altruistic, considering all Southerners guilty of killing her son. Ranch foreman Jess Kirby (Bob Steele, previously seen in "Judgment") has the assignment of digging deeper into Yuma's past, much to both his and his employer's dismay. Madlyn Rhue, beautiful actress best remembered for playing Lt. McGivers in STAR TREK's "Space Seed," had only a dozen credits at the time, cast as Martha's daughter Beth, forever in the shadow of her late brother, while it's a shame that longtime Western favorite Bob Steele would not return to the series.
