Matt Hooper as a radical

Warning: Spoilers
Richard Dreyfus appeared on this episode five years before he became a superstar with Jaws and you can see the seeds of greatness in his performance as Stan one of those high school students who was a goof off for four years and maybe spent more time smoking in the boys room then in class. The ever cheerful Alice Johnson comes up with an idea to give the underachiever a chance and let Stan give the speech at graduation usually given by the valedictorian and she lives to regret that! It made me mad that the kid who worked hard for four years got to be an alternate and the troublemaker got to give the speech. I thought Mister Kaufman should have shot that idea down rightaway after all Stan gives one of the most obnoxious speeches imaginable.

It is graduation time and the students want some change in the valedictorians.

A pretty good episode. Dreyfuss plays a Stan, a wise guy student who does not get good grades. He thinks he has a right to make a valediction speech as much as the straight A students. He goes on a TV talk show and causes a scene. Alice and Kaufman allow him to make a speech at graduation. They worry he may stray from his written speech and make more trouble.
