- Tod and Buz inadvertently become involved in the conflicts between a hops rancher/processor and his two teenage children. The spoiled, undisciplined boy and girl's immaturity end up causing fights, death and worker revolt.
- With $219 in savings after three months and 5,000 miles on the road, Tod and Buz believe it's time for some down time as they look for someplace quiet to relax for a few days. That down time doesn't happen for as soon as they walk into a bar in Grant's Pass, Oregon, they get into a fight. That fight leads to them meeting the Emerson family: wealthy hops plantation owner Gerald, and his two adult children Curt and Karen. In an effort not to be as strict as his father was which led to him hating him, Gerry has taken the exact opposite approach of giving his children unrestricted freedom, which has led to them being spoiled. Outwardly, Karen is the party girl, while Curt, who hangs out at bars and drinks too much, often tries to protect Karen's honor, which resulted in that fight that Tod and Buz broke up between Curt and an older man named Ted Becker, who would not hesitate to act upon Karen's implied invitations. Tod and Buz accept Gerry's offer for short term work as it is harvest season, although they decline Gerry's offer to stay in the pool house, Gerry who wants them as much as hired hands as he wants for them to be friends and role models to Curt and Karen. The question becomes whether it is too late for the Emersons truly to become a bonded family, with the children taking responsibility for their actions without Gerry always taking the approach of throwing money at their problems.—Huggo
