The Final NBC 90 Minute Show
Jimmy_the_Gent429 October 2018
It's too bad this was the last of the 90 minute shows, since it turned out to be one of the best.

The first sketch is a hilarious promo of Edith Prickley at the Melonville baths. This was a spoof on Bette Midler who had performed in gay bathhouses. Edith does some hysterically funny versions of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and others. Joe Flaherty plays Charlton Heston trying to read Alexander Hamilton letters at the same show.

Ed Grimley appears in a spoof of one of my favorite movies What Ever Happened To Baby Jane, now Baby Ed. Ed is the one in the wheel chair and John Candy plays his crazy brother. He serves Ed his pet goldfish on a cracker.

A great Farm Celebrity blow up features Neil Sedaka (a great impression by Eugene Levy). Sedaka gets angry when Big Jim and Billy Sol make fun of his high voice. He finally blows up when he hits a high note on Blowing Up Is Hard To Do.

Gil Fisher welcomes former Eagle Joe Walsh to his show. They show a hunting trip where Walsh and his band play practical jokes on Gil. Walsh performs I Can Play That Rock And Roll All Night. Then Gil gets his revenge on them with a joke of his own.

Another of my favorite movies is spoofed with Midnight Cowboy. Dr Tongue and Woody Tobias Jr play Joe Buck and Ratso in a 3D version. Dr Tongue has a hard time with the Texas accent. Count Floyd hosts a 3D Firing Line show to discuss the film with Dr Tongue, Woody and film critic Pauline Kael (Mary Charlotte Wilcox).

The Days Of The Week wraps up with trial of Rocco. Billy and Mojo try to testify but are excused. Wainwright blurts out that he masterminded everything. There are two great cameos here, Carol Burnett (who had appeared on a real soap All My Children) and Catherine O'Hara.

Mel's Rock Pile talks to some kids on the dance floor and has Stefan of Pre Teen World as a celebrity guest. A punk rock group The Queen Haters perform, Martin Short plays the lead singer who rants about how he hates the Queen of England. It all ends in a slam dancing contest.

Harry the guy with the snake on his face talks about his new Snake Channel. The final sketch on the show and the series is Brock Linehan interviewing people from his home town. Either they make fun of him (his old PE teacher) or don't remember him (his first girl friend).

Cinemax would continue one more season with some of the cast, but I never got to see those, I would hope one day they will become available.
