Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell had developed their "Roxbury Guys" sketch when they were both members of the Groundlings, based on a middle-aged man they had observed bopping his head and asking women to dance with him in a local bar. When Kattan was added to the cast as a featured player at the tail end of season 21, the two of them pitched this sketch in his second week. It was performed just as it had been at the Groundlings, which is why host Phil Hartman does not appear, and includes the song they had originally used: "More and More" by Captain Hollywood Project.
The black and white "You're the Man" sketch got cut after dress rehearsal years earlier from Kevin Kline/Willie Nelson & Paul Simon (1993), when Phil Hartman was still a cast member. In that version, Rob Schneider played the Johnny role, now played by Chris Kattan. Chris Farley played Jim Breuer's small role as the diner employee who calls the cops and Melanie Hutsell played the girlfriend role performed by Nancy Carell here.
