"Schlitz Playhouse" was a television program from the 1950s that was sponsored, naturally, by the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company. Back then, it was the biggest selling beer in America....but the company was bought out and then ceased production long ago. The program was an anthology show...with half hour dramas each week.
"Fresh Start" starts off very depressingly. A young woman (Wanda Hendrix) is contemplating suicide when a thief (William Campbell) on the run from the police takes refuge in her apartment. She is happy for the visit as it gives her something to care about....but this new friend is a short-lived one as the police soon arrive and arrest him....and take her in as well, as they think she is his accomplice. What's next? See the show (it's available currently on YouTube).
Like other episodes of the series I have seen, the acting is very good in this one and the production values are decent compared to other shows of the era. Also, fortunately, though the show starts off in a very sad and depressing manner, it did end on a much more pleasant and positive note. Well worth seeing.
