An enjoyable episode written by Jon Vitti. In order to secure Santa's Little Helper's place in the Simpson home, Bart must see him through Obedience School. Pretty good, not great.

The fickle nature of pet owners

Marge and Homer insist that Santa's Little Helper will have to go unless he starts to behave.

This is a reasonably good episode.

The story associated with the dog's behaviour and rehabilitation is pretty good, but I didn't find it as funny as most other episodes shown in the first two seasons.

It's interesting to see a relatively true to life perspective on dog ownership. I know plenty of owners who have claimed the dogs are like family members until they start damaging material possessions and get thrown out. Great character development written for Bart to show his loyalty.

For me the best lines belong to the Emily Wainthrop character and my favourite scenes involve Lisa and the mumps.

What a Dog!

The Simpson's dog is a one dog wrecking crew. He eats or chews up everything, including some very valuable items. He is sent to obedience school and hasn't a clue. Bart must save him from being given away. Episode is really sad, not so funny.

Mainly Funny!

The sixteenth episode in the second season of the Simpsons is a solid and rather funny episode. There are some touching moments, but this episode focuses on what it's like to train pets and have them become the creatures that we love. The guest voice is Tracey Ullman and she is formidable as the head of the obedience school featured in this episode.

In this episode, "Bart's Dog Gets an F," Santa's Little Helper chews up the family's heirloom and eats Homer's cookies which angers both Homer and Marge. They threaten to give him away unless Bart takes him to obedience school to properly train the dog.

Overall, this is a funny episode but also touching on the way it depicts friendship of man vs. dog. It's not the greatest episode by any means, but still a rather good one in the second season. I rate this episode 9/10.

Ok alright. It doesn't have logic to learn that fast, but it must finish like this. I enjoyed this episode.

While perhaps not the best episode of S2, the bar is pretty high.

There's still more than enough lovely moments to make this enjoyable though, and it comes together in a sweet finale.

Dog Training

This video should be shown to everyone who buys a dog so they can grasp that a dog doesn't understand what you are saying. There are many videos out there backing this up, most notably, Fenton.

One of the worst classic era episodes

This is a really weird episode. The event that actually sets the plot of the episode in motion happens SEVEN minutes before the end of the episode, and it's rather boring all in all. I don't like Santa's Little Helper as he doesn't have any personality outside of being stupid and disobedient and this episode didn't exactly help me change my opinion. Bart's obsession with him is very unconvincing because of that, and the end of the episode is pretty lame too. The dog just magically learns the commands, is given a diploma and the credits roll. Not much to see here and I'm definitely skipping this one on my next rewatch!
