Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love this episode, it doesn't exploit Lisa in a bad way like people say, and we get to see a fully functional story and cast of characters lit up with great animation for the time being.

The plot launches introducing a new character "Alex Whitney" who completely steals the popularity left in Lisa by introducing hip and new style to the school, while Lisa tries to cope with these changes, Bart and Homer have joined the grease business to make money, with some hilarious consequences including a violent fight between grounds keeper Willy. Tensions flare when Lisa looses control over herself trying to find a date for a dance, when she doesn't, Principal Skinner assigns her to do the job of admissioning people into the dance. She finds out the news at the dance, that Alex's plans have gone totally wrong and everybody is repelling each other due to nervousness. The writers don't forget Homer and Bart, as they fall through the vent in the roof and come down to the dance floor followed by gallons of gooey grease. Lisa convinces Alex to live a little as a touching ending.

Overall, all the characters were in their pride, and all the jokes were top-notch. Well written by Jane O' Brien. That sums up my review.

I give this episode a 90% rating.

Solid episode with standout moments

A new student ruffles Lisa's feathers as Homer goes into the grease business.

This has a good character-driven plot that plays out strongly, particularly as everything comes together at the final scenes in Springfield Elementary. As a father of two daughters I can very much identify with the themes regarding the girls growing up too quickly.

Several characters are used well, such as Lisa, guest character Alex, Skinner, Homer, Bart, and Groundskeeper Willy. Easily the funniest bit is the gag involving Homer's eye.

Some have said it is a retread of Lisa's rival, but I think it puts a different spin on the concept.

It's a 7.5/10 for me but I round upwards.

Grease Is the Word

Homer learns that there is a market for used grease. He drags Bart from school and they go about collecting. Unfortunately, there is a kind of grease syndicate that is threatening them. The other plot involves a very worldly girl who comes to Springfield Elementary. She is way more mature and with it than Lisa and soon all the kids are following her lead. No sparkle to this episode.

A Lot of Lard

Not a great episode in my opinion,if anything just average. It did have it's odd funny moment like the boys on one side of the dance floor and girls on the other, (been there, done that), but the grease sub plot was pretty lame. It's only the first episode in the 10th Season, so hopefully it will pick up in the remaining 22 episodes.
