- After Dr. McCoy helps the leader of a planet populated by people with powerful psionic abilities, they decide to force him to stay by torturing his comrades until he submits.
- On an urgent medical emergency, Kirk, Spock and McCoy encounter an alien society that had once flourished on earth during the time of Plato. Since reaching their current planet, they've developed psychokinetic powers while also losing their bodies' ability to combat even the simplest infection, making the need for a physician newly apparent. When Dr. McCoy declines their invitation to stay, they begin to make sport with Kirk, Spock, Nurse Chapel and Lieutenant Uhura using their psychokinetic powers.—laird-3
- The Enterprise responds to an urgent medical emergency call from the planet Platonius, where there is an alien society that had once flourished on Ancient Greece during the time of Plato. Since relocating to Platonius, they have developed psychokinetic powers, and live according to Utopian principles, but their bodies lost the capability to combat infections. The Enterprise finds itself fixed in orbit around the planet - while they are being studied by Platonius' rulers, using their telekinetic powers. At last, the enterprise team disembarks and find that Platonius' philosopher-king, Parmen, is delirious after a small cut on his leg that has become massively infected. Doctor McCoy and Nurse Chapel cure him with ease, and Kirk decides to leave. Parmen invites Doctor McCoy to stay, and when McCoy declines their invitation, they begin to delay their departure by devious means. Alexander, a dwarf without those powers, whom the other Platonians treat as a serf, warns Kirk too late that the Platonians are selfish and cruel, and may eventually kill them. Indeed, Parmen starts toying with the mentally weaker humans, torturing his comrades until he submits. Chapel and Lieutenant Uhura are beamed down, to force Captain Kirk to decide to stay on the planet. Working with Alexander, Kirk, Spock and McCoy try to find a way to gain an advantage and escape. - The Enterprise responds to an urgent distress call from the planet Platonius. There, they find Platonius' leader, Parmen, delirious after a small cut on his leg that has become massively infected. The residents of planet are an ancient civilization and, since relocating to Platonius after their original planet was destroyed, have developed telekinetic powers. Having cured Parmen, McCoy finds that they will not let him leave. Working with Alexander, the only Platonian not to have telekinetic power, Kirk, Spock and McCoy try to find a way to gain an advantage.—garykmcd
- Answering a distress call, the Enterprise finds itself fixed in orbit around the secret planet of the Platonians, a long-lived group who've established their 'Utopian' society after a stay in Ancient Greece during Plato's time, in order for McCoy to cure the strangely serious infection of a small wound on their philosopher-king leader, Parmen. Parmen is, by far, the champion among an amazing group of aliens whose psycho-kinetic powers developed on the planet as they lost any natural resistance against infections. Alexander, a dwarf without powers whom the other Platonians treat as a serf, warns Kirk, Spock and McCoy too late that the Platonians, who easily and cruelly begin toying with the mentally weaker humans (including Nurse Chapel and Lieutenant Uhura who are beamed down ), will not let them leave, probably even kill them.—KGF Vissers
- The Enterprise responds to an urgent medical emergency call from the planet Platonius (The planet has no known life forms and has rich Kironide deposits which are known to be a long lasting source of great power), where there is an alien society that had once flourished on Ancient Greece during the time of Plato.
At last, the enterprise team disembarks and find that Platonius' philosopher-king, Parmen (Liam Sullivan), is delirious after a small cut on his leg that has become massively infected. Philana (Barbara Babcock) is Parmen's wife. Philana informs Spock that they were bred on their home planet, which went nova many millenium ago. Parmen was a fan of Plato and based the new society on a new planet (whom they escaped to), on its principles of Utopia. Philana is over 2300 yrs old, as they were all bred for longevity.
Doctor McCoy and Nurse Chapel cure him with ease, and Kirk decides to leave. Parmen invites Doctor McCoy to stay, and when McCoy declines their invitation, they begin to delay their departure by devious means. Alexander (Michael Dunn), a dwarf without those powers, whom the other Platonians treat as a serf, warns Kirk too late that the Platonians are selfish and cruel, and may eventually kill them. Kirk tries to go back to the Enterprise, but discovers that the ship is frozen and all functions inoperative. It maintains orbit, but cant do anything else at all.
Indeed, Parmen starts toying with the mentally weaker humans. He makes Kirk slap himself when he demands that the Enterprise be released. Then Parmen agrees to release the Enterprise, but asks McCoy to stay behind as the society needs a doctor. McCOy refuses. Parmen wont release McCoy and Kirk wont leave the planet without him. Parmen gets increasingly cruel towards Kirk as he continues to defy him. He humiliates Kirk, by getting Spock to step on his face, and getting Alexander to ride him like a horse. McCoy refuses to yield, as Kirk had ordered him not to. Once it is over, Alexander apologizes to Kirk and says Kirk has made him see that the Platonians are not Gods. He says they developed their powers only after coming to the planet (2-3 months after they started consuming the local food). Spock analyzes blood from Parmen and Alexander to figure that maybe Alex has a deficiency due to which Psychokinetic abilities did not develop in him. The difference is Kironide.
McCoy gives Kirk, Alex and Spock shots to build the Kironide concentration in their blood. Alex develops the powers instantly as he has been on the planet for eons. Meanwhile Uhura and Chapel are beamed down to convince Kirk to surrender. Parmen starts to use Kirk and Spock to torture Uhura and Chapel. Alex views all of this with disgust and finally gets the nerve to confront Parmen. As Parmen begins to punish Alex, Kirk and Spock get the power and repel Parmen. Parmen begs for his life. Kirk takes his crew and Alex away from the planet, and warns Parmen not to threaten any more spaceships again as his secret is now known to all.
