In the opening scene, Abraham Lincoln is shown wearing a beard when two men approach him and ask him to run for the Republican nomination as President. Lincoln was actually clean-shaven throughout his Presidential campaign; he grew the famous beard between his election and his inauguration.
The Emancipation Proclamation didn't free all the U.S. slaves, just those in the states that had seceded and joined the Confederacy. The slaves in the so-called "border states" (which had had slavery before the war but had not seceded) remained in bondage until passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
