Well acted...but unpleasant.

"The Desperate Age" is a most unusual episode of "Studio One". The acting is quite good and the production values on par with other "Studio One" teleplays. But on the other hand, the plot is clearly one that will irritate some viewers and it's surprisingly frank for a 1950s TV production.

Barbara Bel Geddes plays Letty, a young woman who keeps resisting her co-workers' and her mother's admonition that she should date more and try to get married. Eventually, she goes out with one poor schnook (Martin Balsam) though it turns out she is just using him, as her real love is a married man with whom she's been having an affair.

The story tries very hard to make you feel sorry for Letty. But no matter how much you try, she IS the 'other woman' and is selfish. I was hoping she'd show more character...some reason to care about her. But ultimately, the story left me flat.
