Eric vs. the redcoats!
Yonilikka-2230 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
From the fifth season of the B.B.C.'s 'Sykes'.

Eric, Hat, and 'Corky' are staying at a holiday camp. Not Eric's choice for a holiday venue; he had wanted to go to Acapulco, but the state of his Post Office savings account was such that the only way he could have made it there would have been if he had walked and slept on the beach. Hat is full of bubbly enthusiasm for the outrageous games. Eric is not in the mood; all he wants to do is sleep. His apathy catches on, and soon other male campers are refusing to take part in the knobbly knees and sausage eating contests. In desperation, the management sends for its secret weapon - the beautiful redcoat 'Miss Peppercorn' ( Pippa Page )...

This was made about five years before the hugely successful 'Hi-De- Hi!' and it is interesting to note how similar it is. The camp Redcoat 'Mr.Jesslewhite' ( Nigel Hamilton ) is very like Barry Howard's 'Barry Stuart-Hargreaves', while Page's 'Miss Peppercorn' puts one in mind of leggy 'Sylvia Garnsey' from that same show. A fun episode, with the regulars on good form. Presumably Eric got official permission from Butlins to mention the 'redcoats'. With no-one turning up for breakfast, Corky is in his element as he can now have as many sausages and fried eggs as he likes. The management is so teed off with Eric's one-man mutiny that they pay him to go to Acapulco with Hat ( Miss Peppercorn goes along as well. No Corky though! ).

Funniest moment - at the rifle range, the stall-holder ( John F. Landry ) tries to cheat Eric out of his change. Eric points the gun at the man, forcing him to hand over the correct amount!
