- Quotes
Jack Tripper: That was very nice of you, Janet, to volunteer like that. Now don't worry about us, Chrissy and I will think of something to do.
Janet Wood: I'll *bet* you will!
Chrissy Snow: What do you mean, "I'll bet you will?"
Jack Tripper: [rising from couch] I know what she means. I know what's going through your wicked little mind when you say "I'll bet you will." You think that the moment you're gone, I'm gonna grab Chrissy like this,
[grabs Chrissy]
Jack Tripper: and bend her over,
[tips Chrissy over backwards]
Jack Tripper: smother her with kisses,
[smothers Chrissy with kisses]
Jack Tripper: lift her up into my arms,
[lifts her up like she's a feather]
Jack Tripper: and throw her onto the couch,
[lightly drops Chrissy onto the couch]
Jack Tripper: and who knows what?
Chrissy Snow: [out of breath] What?
Jack Tripper: Is that the kind of guy you think I am?
Janet Wood: Yes!
Jack Tripper: I'm not gonna stand here and be insulted. I'm leaving!
Janet Wood: Oh, yeah? And where are you going?
Jack Tripper: I gotta go do some fast shopping for a very special dinner for two.
[out the door]
Janet Wood: [shoves door shut] Uh, Chrissy, maybe I shouldn't stay with Mrs. Roper tonight.
Chrissy Snow: [sits up on the couch] Now I'm insulted...!
Janet Wood: Oh, no, no, no, don't get me wrong.
Chrissy Snow: I have been alone with Jack before.
Janet Wood: Yeah, but never all night.
Chrissy Snow: You think I need a chaperone?
[gets up from couch]
Chrissy Snow: Is that what you think?
Janet Wood: Oh, no, no,
[shakes her head]
Janet Wood: I'm just saying don't do anything to give him the wrong idea. Or the right idea. Or any idea.
Chrissy Snow: Like what?
Janet Wood: Well, like... walking around in your apartment in your little teeny shorty nightgown. Or... or getting too close to him, or... Oh, look, Chrissy,
[gets up]
Janet Wood: all I'm trying to say is... don't be yourself.
A pleasant, and at times very funny, but not uproarious episode. 'Alone Together' gets off to a good start with an early scene in which Jack casually dismisses the exercises that Janet & Chrissy are doing. When Jack attempts to get into the "Lotus position", and then can't get out of it, it leads to some hilarity. John Ritter could do no wrong when it came to this kind of physical comedy.
Key to the episodes' success, though, is the way that it portrays Jack. For all his girl chasing, he IS a fundamentally decent guy, and takes it to heart when he learns that Chrissy is upset. In the end, he makes her feel good about herself again.
Meanwhile, Roper gets into some trouble when the sleazy con-artists trying to sell him some desert property throw a wild party, and he's assumed to be one of the revelers instead of the guy who called to complain. Like so many guys, even Roper can be a sucker for an attractive young woman.
Guest starring Sondra Currie (the "Hangover" series) as the sexy Sherry Lee, and character actors Stuart Nisbet ("Casino") and Will MacMillan (the original "The Crazies").
