Improvised Ending

Warning: Spoilers
Here was showed how ended the failed spin off Time of Your Life. The premise of this, the main reason for Sarah to leave San Francisco, was to find her biological father in New York. At the same time, she wanted to live on her own, like a 20 year old girl, make her own mistakes without being part of a family, without being engaged to Bailey. And she did all that in this spin off, but she never searched her father after the Pilot. Besides, she changed her name from Sarah Reeves-Merrin, how Archer Fitzwith met her and called her (the man who helped her first and loved Robin Merrin), to Sarah Merrin. This was a big mistake and an insult to Mr and Mrs Reeves, who raised Sarah during 18 years. So after changing entirely how she was and becoming a woman like her birth mother, Sarah lost many of the qualities that made her special in Party of Five. In the last episode, she found herself with a big debt and a failed temp agency she started a few weeks ago, in order to do something with her life. And investigating a scam which involved her neighbour JB, detective Gordon Knowles found Sarah, realizing that she lives in the same apartment than Robin lived, so that's how he found his lost daughter. And yes, he found her, not backwards. Gordon told Sarah how he met Robin and that he loved her. But when Sarah discovers that he has been married twice and that he could never commit himself to anyone (Sally, a woman who lived with him told her this), she feels disappointed. Wth all her life ruined, and having escaped the "perfect life" she had in SF, she plans to return to SF, still, she doesn't mention the Salingers or the Reeves. And before leaving, she asks Gordon the truth about he and Robin: Turns out that he was surprised when Robin said that she was pregnant, and that he didn't take it well, spending 2 weeks thinking. But when he told her that they could have the baby, raise her and get married, Robin decided to return to SF with her parents, and give the baby for adoption (just like she explained in POF 2x13). She thought it was too late for abortion and also didn't want anything to interfere in her career as an actress. Gordon also said that she left SF chasing a college guy to NY, she dumped that guy for Archer and then dumped Archer for him, only to abandon him being pregnant with Sarah. A emotional Gordon said that he lost a woman and a daughter. That was the single best scene of the episode, where he said how was Robin Merrin. She left every man who loved her and wanted to commit (Archer said the same). So then, Sarah realizes that she did the same, she left Bailey after his proposal, and lately, she dumped Spencer when he wanted to start something. Then, Sarah manages to save her agency thanks to Maguire, who gives her all his savings and decides to leave town, getting gigs for music. They share a romantic farewell, and he says he will return. Later, Sarah chooses to stay in NY, and be close to her birth father. He tells her that he doesn't know how to be a father, so she wants to take it slow, starting with a tie. The end of Sarah's storyline wasn't bad, but lacked emotions. She turned into a Robin Merrin so she lost somehow that kindness and feelings that made her so sensitive in Party of Five. Her relationship with Maguire never felt right, as he is a recovered drug addict who wanted a quiet life, as Bailey Salinger did. He is in love with her but that's not enough. So what I hoped to see, was Bailey's return. In the end of POF, he decides to move back East to Philadelphia, to get a business degree in an Ivy League school. And considering that Sarah chose a temp agency as a business, I can't help but imagine how great and emotional would have been this episode if Bailey appeared today in Sarah's apartment to make ammends and start over their relationship. They could perfectly commute from Philadelphia to New York, and they would be living like people their ages, just as she wanted. That would have been very nice to see. Besides, Claudia is moving to New York to study in Juilliard, so she would be living in the same city than Sarah. I wish Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman could say something about this, if Bailey and Claudia found Sarah or not. Would have been a nice story to follow.

As for the rest, Romy and JB story ended pretty well. She convinced him to take the reponsibility for his minor crimes and accept prison time. He has been prosecuted for a stolen car 10 years ago and now, for being involved in a scam, he can't avoid it. He changes to guilty, and Maguire's ex girlfriend, Jessica, as attorney, convinces the judge to let JB be present to attend a play for Romy. She says that she will wait for him until he serves his time. This storyline was very good and showed a true love story between Romy and JB. They accepted their differences but also decided that their love is beyond that. In a previous episode, he went to Portland to convince her to return to NY, to keep alive her dream of being an actress in theaters, and now, she stood for him during the trial, helping him to get pass the process. Of course, to praise Jennifer Garner, who already in 1999-2000, made her characters loveable.
