- Hoby Gilman: I didn't get the question.
- Dingo Noble: Are you the ranger, Hoby Gilman?
- Aaron Adams: I'm gonna tell you something, mister. You have it tattooed on your eyes so you don't forget. If anything happens to that boy, you'll be lucky if you die within a year o' the day I find you.
- [Goes back into the barber shop]
- Dingo Noble: My, my. He makes a lot of noise for a skinny one, don't he?
- Hoby Gilman: So does a buffalo gun, but it does the job.

- [Hoby and Aaron are in the sheriff's office discussing plans for Aaron to leally adopt Eric Paine, when Ralph enters and gives Hoby a telegram]
- Ralph: This just came in for you, Mr. Gilman.
- Hoby Gilman: Thanks, Ralph.
- [Hoby opens the message, and Ralph picks up a cribbage board from a desk]
- Hoby Gilman: Well, I guess that's about it.
- Aaron Adams: Dingo, you mean?
- Hoby Gilman: Yeah, he's to be taken to El Paso for trial.
- Ralph: When, Mr. Gilman?
- Hoby Gilman: Oh, tomorrow morning I guess.
- Ralph: GOOD!
- Hoby Gilman: I thought you and Dingo were getting along well.
- Ralph: We are, we are.
- Hoby Gilman: Then why are you so anxious to see 'im leave?
- Ralph: Mr. Gilman, that man's only been here two days, and he's cleaned me outta every cent I had, the way he plays cribbage. Down to now where I gotta wash his shirts for a whole month.
