- Herb's father visits the station to see his son. Herb Sr is a born salesman just like Herb Jr, and has run away from the retirement home where he was living. Herb Sr wants his son to give him money so he can go to California.
- Herb is having a mixed day. On the up side, he has come up with a scheme to parlay his paycheck into one thousand tax-free dollars. On the down side, Andy is on the warpath as he wants the ads for Shady Hills Rest Home off the air, they, one of Herb's more lucrative sales, who Andy considers disreputable and the ads in poor taste. The goings-on at the station are completely disrupted with the surprise visit by Herb's three-year widowed father, the first Herb Tarlek. The staffers quickly discover that Herb II inherited more of his father than just his name. Herb II's want to prove himself as a good salesman is largely to impress Herb Sr., who has worked his entire life in sales. While father and son negotiate a fundamental issue of Herb Sr.'s life - the reason for Herb Sr.'s surprise visit - which indirectly affect the negotiations today between Herb II and Andy, the other staffers weigh-in on the issue, they basing their feelings on the emotion if Herb Sr. was their father, and their greater affinity for father more than for son.—Huggo
- Herb's father shows up at WKRP, and displays a strikingly similar behavior pattern to Herb. He has been staying in a rest home (Herb got the rent for free by placing the rest home's ads on WKRP) but wants a change. Herb's father (Herb, Sr.) dresses like his son, and proceeds to annoy all the WKRP staff - - - selling jewelry to Mr. Carlson, gambling with the DJs (Johnny Fever and Venus Flytrap), etc.
