Yeah, this outing takes a whole lot too long to get to the characters we know and love. The stage is set by the announcement by Mrs. Carlson that she is pregnant, and it's a bit tedious... but then it becomes absolutely hilarious, what with born loser Herb building his ivory tower on office time, shy Bailey heading for home but trying to be evrn nicer than she already is, Les and his holy Silver Sow award who wants to lock up his imaginary office, the funny misunderstanding between Carlson and Venus Flytrap re "wanting to have a girl" and the jewel at the end, Venus almost rocking to music not hos style and shaking his head to shirk that off.
These people have built walls around themselves, Les being literally even if really figuratively the prime example. Herb is the all-time loser feeling sorry for himself. He needs a hug, desperately, but he ain't never gonna get it. Of course, Jennifer's the strong one, she lives in a castle, you can see that. Bailey (who is totally miscast, played by stunningly beautiful Jan Smithers (my favorite!)) is too shy for her own good. Carlson, the ineffectual Mommy's boy puppet. Venus and Johnny symbolized by their choice in music, too cool to be part of this world. Only Andy is a regular person.
Psychiatrists can have a field day with this lot.
