Robert Horton has to go for a doctor in the next settlement after a wagon falls on Frank McGrath. The problem is that Eduard Franz the doctor has a son recently released from prison who has a number of scores to settle. One of them being his own father who when he was a kid was the town drunk.
But that's not Sterling Hayden's only reason. He holds Franz responsible for the death of his wife who was an Indian. Maybe even more so than the people who actually did the deed.
Hayden gives a fine performance as one vengeful man who has to come to grips with the fact he also has a son to start raising and take that burden from Franz. And Horton has to prevent him from killing Franz before he can take him to the Wagon Train.
Nice episode with a good family touch.
