Gene Wilder's line "Strike that. Reverse it." is any homage to his famous role's often quoted line in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
As Will is trying to boost Mr. Stein's confidence, he has Stein yell, "I am Stein! I am Stein!." In an outtake from the episode, Will stands up and yells, "You're Frankenstein!."
This series often uses the names of crew members as character names. In this episode, Mr. Stein remarks that Doucette and Stein's softball team has lost to Spragg, Askins and Rovello for the last two years. Gilbert Spragg and Rusty Spragg are the property master and assistant property master, respectively; Tony Askins works as a cinematographer on the show; and Glenda Rovello is the primary production designer for the series.
Ben Doucette's absence is explained as him being retired. In real life, Gregory Hines had cancer and died less than a year after this episode.
