I'm doing my first rewatch of this show since I was a kid, and this is one of a handful of episodes I remember clearly -- and for good reason. This is a certified classic.
To start with, we get a lot of what this show does best: capturing the universally awkward experiences of adolescence. From the opening double date/make-out session with parents hovering, to being recruited as the go-between for a couple as they break up and get back together, to the revelation that the opposite sex *also* has no idea what they're doing at that age... It's all so painfully relatable.
On top of that, we get some of the most enduring moments of the series: the Star Trek spoof (though the costumes they put those 12- and 13-year-old actresses in give me pause now that I'm an adult) and the Kevin-Becky break-up. ("Friends?! I'll give you friends!") Becky Slater was a delightfully unhinged character that brought a lot of drama to this show, and I look forward to seeing her back.
