Quotes

  • Thomas Gastall : Dr. Voss would be in violation of his confidentiality clause in answering questions regarding the nature of his work here at Morley. I'm sure you understand our cooperation cannot extend itself to revealing corporate secrets.

Walter Skinner : I'm not sensing any cooperation whatsoever. In fact, I'm one more non-answer away from getting a federal warrant and searching this entire building.

Thomas Gastall : Then this meeting is over.

    Fox Mulder : Dr. Voss.

[toss over an evidence bag containing a bug]

Fox Mulder : Can you tell me what that is?

Dr. Peter Voss : It's a tobacco beetle. Why?

Fox Mulder : We found it at Jim Scobie's house.

Dr. Peter Voss : You find a lot of these around here. They're everywhere - there are probably a dozen in the grill of your car right now.

Thomas Gastall : May I ask where you're going with this, Agent?

Fox Mulder : I'm sorry, I can't. Answering that question would violate FBI confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of our investigation.

  • [last lines]

Dana Scully : Hey. Good to be back?

Fox Mulder : [with a raspy voice]  Beats the alternative.

Dana Scully : Well, you'll be interested to know that Morley Tobacco has subpoenaed all of our files on the case. They seem extremely interested in your recovery.

Fox Mulder : What about Darrel Weaver?

Dana Scully : He's, uh... well enough to have been moved to the hospital ward at Raleigh Correctional.

Fox Mulder : It was the nicotine itself that was keeping him alive?

Dana Scully : Well, his fingertips were stained yellow with it. He was a four-pack-a-day smoker, far heavier than any of the focus group members who died. You know, nicotine is extremely poisonous. It's actually one of the oldest known insecticides.

Fox Mulder : It's good for killing tobacco beetles.

Dana Scully : Well, once we loaded your system up with enough of it, it acted as a sort of chemotherapy. Except it almost stopped your breathing at the same time.

Fox Mulder : That's not all it did.

[he opens his desk and reveals a carton of Morley brand ciggarettes]

Fox Mulder : I bought these on the way to work.

Dana Scully : [confounded]  You're not going to start smoking?

Fox Mulder : Well, they say the addiction is stronger than heroin.

    Dana Scully : Mulder...

[Mulder throws the carton in the trashcan]

Dana Scully : Good. Well, Skinner's waiting for us in his office.

Fox Mulder : I'll be right up.

[Scully leaves the room. Mulder then looks down at the carton of ciggarettes in the trashcan, leaving it vague if he picks them back up or not]

  • Fox Mulder : It must be bad.

Dana Scully : How do you feel?

Fox Mulder : Like a DustBuster attacked me.

  • Walter Skinner : Where are you going?

Fox Mulder : See about something else that's bugging me.

  • Fox Mulder : You don't seem surprised that he's dead.

Ashman : I guess his number come up.

Ashman : I'm just glad it wasn't me.

  • Fox Mulder : Can't blow the whistle with a mouth like that.
