[Scully asks Briggs if anything about Tooms's earlier crimes felt wrong to him]
Detective Frank Briggs : There is one thing that never did sit quite right with me. When I investigated the killings in 1963, all five of the victims were found at the crime scene - all five.
Dana Scully : As with the four most recent murders.
Detective Frank Briggs : When I investigated the original Powhatan Mil killings in 1933, only four of the victims were found at the crime scene. However, there was a fifth person who was missing but never found. But this...
[He opens his old file box and lifts out a jar with a piece of a human liver]
Detective Frank Briggs : This was discovered at the Ruxton Chemical Plant while it was under construction, but it doesn't belong to any of the other victims.
Dana Scully : That doesn't prove it belonged to a person murdered by Tooms.
Detective Frank Briggs : I am positive that Tooms hid this particular victim because there was something about the body that could prove he was the killer.
Dana Scully : How do you know?
Detective Frank Briggs : A hunch. A good, old-fashioned hunch. You've got to be able to trust your instincts.
Dana Scully : And where do your instincts tell you Tooms buried the body?
Detective Frank Briggs : In the concrete where they poured the foundation of the chemical plant.

[reading a news article on Tooms's release, Briggs crumples it into a ball and tosses it away in disgust]
Detective Frank Briggs : [to Scully] If he gets away now, the next time he kills... you'll be nearly my age.

[at the Ruxton Chemical Plant]
Dana Scully : Ground-penetrating radar. It bounces signals off of objects or cavities.
Detective Frank Briggs : Tells you where the body is.
Dana Scully : Well, it signals if something inordinate is present. An experienced operator attempts to differentiate if the signal is a body or is stone or a hole in the ground.
Detective Frank Briggs : Differentiate?
Dana Scully : Mm-hmm.
Detective Frank Briggs : You mean, he guesses.
Dana Scully : Well... it's an educated guess.
Detective Frank Briggs : Mm-hmm.

Dana Scully : How are we doing?
Radar Operator : Well, it's really hard to tell. There are some possibilities... very few places...
[Briggs wheels himself out of sight, entering a shadowed portion of the chemical plant. After a few moments, he senses something about the atmosphere of the room...]
Detective Frank Briggs : It's here... here!
Radar Operator : What is it?
Detective Frank Briggs : It's here!
[points urgently at the floor]
Detective Frank Briggs : It's *right here*!
