Extensive rehearsals were required as much of the episode was shot in long, unbroken takes. Initially David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson had some difficulty in mastering this as it was completely different from the way they usually shot the series. However, they were very much in favor of how much quicker the episode's shoot was (the average scene would take about 4 or 5 hours to shoot instead of the usual 15).
David Duchovny almost breaks character and starts laughing in the scene were Steve and Edy are having an argument.
