This episode is jam-packed with things

There is a LOT happening, and the pace in which everything develos is high.. Many new characters are introduced and it is easy to see how people watching without (a lot of) background on the franchise could get confused.

But the story itself is good. And it is clearly to set up the stage for the episodes to come.

Another Case of a Rushed Story
injury-654478 July 2020
There's an interesting story here. Rogue's conflict between having her potentially useful powers or being "normal" and able to get close to other people. The idea of a mutant cure. The idea of mutant slaves. Many many new characters.

Unfortunately they try to shove all of these concepts into 20 minutes of runtime. That's basically impossible. It all feels too rushed and we don't get to know these new characters properly or understand their motivations or place in the show.

The Cure.

Warning: Spoilers
There's a bit going on in The Cure, it's alright, rather rushed, some of it carried over from the slave island Genosha. Where Rogue seeks a scientist who claims to be able to "cure" any mutant of their powers. Many characters are introduced, some more significant than others in Apocalypse and Mystique. Not sure exactly what Apocalypse is, looks robotic, though undoubtedly a mutant and all powerful. I'd assume Mystique's physically weak like Morph as well. There's no 100 on a dartboard by the way... Cable looks identical to the Sarge character in "Quake." Rogue rather haphazardly changes her mind, without anything changing and without knowing it's a sham. Nor does the Professor intervene knowing something's up, which we will either be continued with or brought up at a later date.

Too many subplots

Warning: Spoilers
The opening recap has some narration that wasn't in the previous episodes. They thought we wouldn't notice but we did. Jean casually reveals that she's been kissing Rogue. The plane is flying sideways. This episode also introduces Mystique and Apocalypse as well as a bunch of other mutants. The pace is so breakneck we don't really get to know any of them. Rogue also changes her mind about wanting to be a mutant pretty quickly. The opening scene was pretty unnecessary and so were Pyro and Avalanche. The episode already has a lot of ground to cover, it would be better to focus on the central conflict instead of overstuffing it with characters that have little to do with the story.
