Resignation?
bkoganbing18 January 2017
Wasting a lot of good talent on this Zane Grey Theater story is really a shame. This one which starred John Forsythe as a Confederate lieutenant who resigns his commission was a bit much.

Resign? In the middle of a war. No wonder everyone is suspicious on both sides. Since when do army officers resign in the middle of a war. They might desert, but just resign and have it accepted. I mean, Puh-Leeze.

This is the Missouri theater and Forsythe is welcomed home by wife Marjorie Lord who truly believes him. He's also allowed to help in the army hospital under Dr. John Dehner who says he's a neutral.

As William Holden said in Stalag 17 you can pick up a lot of loose information in a prison camp and you can in the hospital.

Do I have to go farther. One of the more ridiculous stories ever on the Zane Grey Theater.

A dull uninteresting story.

In an episode that began with such 'high hopes' the story ended with very little fanfare. Lt. David Marr from the Confederate Army has written to resign. His resignation has been approved but this comes as a shock to his unit. They are claiming that Marr is afraid and begin to call him yellow as Marr heads back home to Springfield that is now under Union control.

As he approaching the town, the Union army are not to happy to have a former Rebel officer living around them and say they will be talking with him soon. In the meantime, Marr gets a job helping the local doctor, Jim Randolph, that has been called to work at the Union campsite. That is when we learn the reason for the show and the reason that Marr left the army.

Perhaps there just was not enough flow to this story but it just seemed to be stuck in mediocrity. With such a good beginning, the story lack any productive structure that would cause a viewer to become interested. To be honest, this episode was just boring.
