In a small western town, the local sheriff, Tom Baker, has a broken arm and is limited on what he can do and how he can handle things. When a group of rowdy cowboys start trouble in the town, Baker has to go out and confront them. However, one of the cowboys gets the best of Baker and takes his gun away. A person standing nearby, Lane - who use to be a former peace officer, shoots and kills the cowboy. The mayor hires Lane to be the Sheriff's deputy until Baker gets back to full strength.
Sheriff Baker is not pleased with the new deputy. It seems that Lane shoots first and asks questions later. It is obvious when a local teenager is running after stealing a food product from the General Store and Lane shoots him. The Sheriff is outraged because everyone knew the boy's name and they could have easily went to his house and arrested him. There is a conflict between Sheriff and Deputy but there is more to this relationship than meets the eye.
An enjoyable show that ended way too quick. There was more to this story that the viewer wanted to know, but because of the time restrictions, the program had to end. One of the better shows that was entertaining from beginning to end. This is one time that I would have liked to seen the series extend to an hour.
