Predictable range war with weird ending
bkoganbing24 January 2017
One of the great names of the musical stage going back to the teen years of the last century Peggy Wood guest stars in this Zane Grey Theater story. I wish they had given Wood better material.

She's Barbara Stanwyck here, running the Big Valley and she and neighbor Fay Roope are having a dispute over a spring that borders the property. She wants it all, Roope wants it all and Roope's son is a good gun.

So Wood goes out and hires Dan O'Herlihy, war hero and gunfighter and o'Herlihy says no gunfighting and she agrees. Besides he's got history with Marian Seldes Wood's daughter-in-law and her son Richard Beymer is the last male in the clan.

I'm not sure why she hired O'Herlihy and why O'Herlihy just didn't walk away from this crazy situation. You knew what was going to happen, but Wood's reaction makes no sense at all. In fact her character really makes no sense.

Wood is best remembered by film fans for playing the Mother Abbess in Sound Of Music. Better that than this.
