Introducing the rest of the Planet Express crew
Tweekums22 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The series pilot introduced protagonists Fry, Leela and Bender and Fry's distant nephew Professor Farnsworth and this episode introduces the rest of the workforce. There is bureaucrat Hermes, Dr. Zoidberg who is some sort of crustacean and knows little about human anatomy and Amy Wong, an intern whose main qualification for the job is having the same blood type as the professor! This episode also sees the new crew's first mission… they are to deliver a crate to the moon. Fry thinks this is the greatest thing ever until he learns that the highlight of a trip to the moon is a visit to a tacky theme park. He is so disappointed that he decides to go and explore the real moon outside the dome. Things don't go too well outside and he, Leela and Bender find themselves fleeing from a farmer who accuses Bender of interfering with his robot-daughter. Meanwhile Amy is having difficulties having accidentally dropped the ship's keys into one of the games in the theme park.

This episode wasn't as good as the pilot but it was still fairly entertaining and introduced several new characters. Amy got the best introduction and looks set to become one of the main group; Zoidberg has the potential to be the funniest of the new characters though. The story about them going to the moon was okay but lacked the excitement of the chase in the pilot. Still there were some good laughs and it was good that it was explained why the famous Lunar lander was still on the moon when the Astronauts used it to depart in 1969!

Great episode after great episode, Futurama is so good.

(Ranking every episode of Futurama #2) This one is not super memorable or as funny as the pilot, but it is still so good. It introduces new characters like Amy, Hermes, and Zoidberg, which are all great characters in their own way, and you like them more the longer the series goes. In this episode, Fry and the crew go to the moon for a delivery, which is now home to a bad amusement park. It is an interesting plot and it has a great ending that I think is underrated. This show has so many great endings that ones like this get overshadowed. This is overall another hilarious, entertaining episode of this show!

We're Whalers on the Moon, We Sing a Whalin' Tune

Such nostalgia for me revisiting these episodes. This second one is actually a lot funnier than I recalled. The jokes come hard and fast and the whole 20 minutes is a pleasure to sit through. Consistently amusing and clever.

Sets up side characters Amy, Hermes but especially Dr Zoidberg who is hilarious in his first meeting with young lady Fry.

This episode establishes the Planet Express as a basis for visiting various locations around the universe. It makes sense to start with the moon as our closest celestial neighbour.

Deals with Fry's expectations of the future versus the reality - something I'm sure the show will do many times.

The Crushinator! You have to romance a woman like that.

Top 5 Episode

Since I started watching the series, only a few episodes stood above the rest. This is the seminal episode of Luck of the Fryish and episode with the sad dog. Here you find the earliest examples of what the show could acomplish. All the stars, all the praise: this is the origin of one of our favorite shows.

The One Where They Go To The Moon...

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It's a great follow up to the Series Premiere.

In this episode, the Planet Express crew have to deliver a package to the Moon. Which now has a theme park on it. Fry is super excited, and everyone else is just like, "It's only the Moon". When they get there, Fry wants to explore. When he sees that the theme park is disappointing, because it's generic and he can't do moon bounces or anything, he takes his little moon rover, off the ride, and onto the real surface. He gets stuck out there with little oxygen. Meanwhile, Leela loses the keys to the ship and finds them in a crane machine game. She tries desperately to get them out, but fails miserably.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10.
