Ash encounters a Chikorita with a never-quit attitude, which could put it in danger...
This a great episode. Easily the best from the first batch of Johto episodes. It's got an emotional resonance that is absent from the average Pokemon episode. They sprinkle a few of these heavier episodes throughout the seasons, and they're usually a treat. This one is no exception as Ash encounters a Chikorita that keeps battling even when it can't stand any longer. With a blizzard coming in, and Team Rocket working to bring Chikorita into their fold, Ash ventures out into the snow to rescue her. It's a bit morbid to say, but the episodes where Ash suffers on behalf of his Pokemon are often really great, memorable episodes. When he really puts it all on the line, it can lead to damn good television. Of course, this Chikorita joins Ash and later develops a crush on him. You be the judge if that gets into weird territory for you, but the show treats it pretty lightly. Also, Team Rocket trying to get Chikorita to sign a contract was a great moment.
