Short revue: Interesting short leading to "De ofrivilliga"
OJT20 October 2013
As a short, this is great. A glimpse of an everyday event in Sweden. Youngsters passing a high bridge, when one of them stupidly wants to jump off.

The film has the camera placed solid a few places, while the acting seems like one-takes. Good acting all over, though some of the dialog is difficult to comprehend if you're not a native Swede.

The film was a pre study for the later film "De ofrivilliga" by the same director. This was even to be included and prolonged, but since this short got so much attention, it was cut from the feature film plan.

Amazing Ruben!

Warning: Spoilers
TOO GOOD RUBEN!

This is way deeper then you think. A important scene of a ordinary every-day Swedish summer, some young adults batteling with trying to show that one guy isnt scared of anything.

Something typical that appears in young adults that seem that they cant take damage from anything and that they can do anything - Even with a warning and without consequences.

Ruben makes it again! A situation like this ahowing how vulnerable we are around other people, how our mind changes when being around for humans and why some humans sometimes risk their life.

This is one of Swedens best shortfilms! Its excellent and simply perfect!

I really recommend it! Watch it! Its wirth it!

Above the bridge Warning: Spoilers
"Scen nr: 6882 ur mitt liv" or "Autobiographical Scene Number 6882" is a 9-minute live action short from 2005, so this one is already over a decade old. The director and also one of the writers is Ruben Östlund that is today mostly known for his BAFTA and Golden Globe (and almost Oscar) nominated film "Turist". But we will speak about that one on another occasion. When he made this short film here, he was around the age of 30 and it is basically about a bunch of young people (men and women) talking about a challenge who dares to jump off a bridge. An old man passing by saying that people died after doing the same isn't helping matters at all. So, this is not just a film about courage, but also about fear and masculinity, all subjects that also play a major role in "Turist" I believe. But still I was not really convinced eventually. The static camera did not work as well in here as it does in Östlund's film about witnessing a bank robbery and the characters themselves are also relatively forgettable. In terms of the dialogues it is not a bad film and also relatively authentic I would say. As for the ending, it is entirely subjective if you liked it or not and I myself am also a bit undecided still. All in all, I am not convinced though and give this one a thumbs-down. Looks like Östlund really stepped things up in the last decade.
