so, so sad
funnylookingmonkey10 July 2006
how incredibly depressing to watch such a brilliant man saying such ignorant things. maybe he could be somewhat forgiven if his new material was actually funny.

by now his trademark verbosity and mind-boggling referential skills are so well established they can no longer carry his routines like they once did... and so it comes down to the subjects of the jokes. and that's where the trouble really lies. a joke about the only problem with the war in iraq is the fact that soldiers are being forced to follow the rules of engagement? a series of jokes about his doubts on the existence of global warming? jokes about howard dean, robert byrd, and anyone else who hasn't toed party lines? has bill o'reilly begun writing material for him?

there was a brief period -- say, early to mid 90's -- when miller seemed poised to step into the stand-up pantheon and take his place among the greats (richard pryor, lenny bruce, bill hicks, et al), but apparently somewhere along the line the devil showed up early to claim his soul. now he's become a pathetic jester for the fox news set.

truly sad.

Good stuff
fwarleader21 July 2006
I really enjoy listening to Dennis Miller. I think some people will find his political humor opposite of what they are use to. He is not of the liberal left wing cookie cutter jokes.

He is very anti political correctness. He is refreshing and original, compared to the old worn out spots where people bash the nation and President Miller takes it a step further and says things that many of us think but are a bit shy to utter in public.

Well worth watching. If you have thin skin then perhaps it is not for you. If you whine because someone is not political correct or someone dares to go against the status quo of the clone comedians you may not like Dennis Miller. But for those of us who want something new and refreshing it is wonderful.

I guess it depends on your perspective

Funnylookingmonkey is looking at this from a decidedly liberal perspective. He/she should not be so presumptuous as to think their perspective is fact.

It is undeniable that Miller's slant has shifted from more liberal to more conservative, and what amazed me was that he has done something I've never heard any other comic do, including "conservative comedians" like Brad Stine, and that is attack liberals with jokes and satire and defend conservatives and still make it funny.

For some reason it either hasn't existed or it has been elusive....but Miller is the first to figure it out.

I had more laugh out loud moments with "All In" than any other show he has done....but the right leaning rhetoric wasn't what was funny, in fact, the rhetoric actually served as the set ups to punchlines that were actually very apolitical.

For the sake of full disclosure I would describe myself as a conservative....I do, however, as an avid comedy fan from childhood and amateur comic, consider myself pretty fair minded when it comes to comedy and what is funny (I am a David Cross fan, and he could be considered the yin to Miller's yang...THAT is how even handed I can be).

That said I highly recommend "All In"...I think it is groundbreaking for comedy...whether it is recognized as such or not.

about time!!!
RickBlaine337 September 2006
It is about time someone like Dennis Miller stood up and said what America needs to hear. Some are mad at him because he is no longer a staunch "left winger," but lets just say he has made a move the the correct side of politics and performed a brilliant and hilariously true hour of politically driven comedy. Just because he is in show business doesn't mean that he has to be a liberal. People need to listen to what he is saying, even if you don't like him, he makes some great points. If you are upset that he switched his political agenda, get over it and listen to him, you may like what you hear. Thank you Dennis Miller for standing up for whats right!!!

Good return to form...

I'm not conservative, but I give credit where credit is due. People need to give Dennis a break and understand his humor has always been more in his form than the content. Seriously, his rant on global warming had me in stitches even though I disagree with it. This show is much better than the Raw Feed and his best show in years. People should give stuff a chance and not just write it off because the political ideaology of the performer. It's nice to see a performer who takes chances on his content and doesn't look back. People apparently see a different Dennis now, but I still see the same guy who hosted the HBO show a few years ago...with disturbing opinions. Still, a great buy.

Dennis Miller in fine form

Warning: Spoilers
I'm curious when is it that people think Dennis Miller was ever a liberal? I've read his books and watched his comedy for as long as I can remember him being on the scene and I would never have classified him as a liberal. I find him more in line with my views, which are too varied and nuanced to pigeonhole me into either the conservative or the liberal camps.

Full disclosure: I'm an out gay democrat in a same sex relationship. My partner of fourteen years lovingly refers to me as his "republican nazi" because of some of my more conservative views. Conversely, he's my "bleeding heart liberal." (How's that for some pet names?)

This is how I've always seen Miller: liberal leaning on some issues, conservative leaning on others, always brilliantly and relentlessly outspoken and unapologetic for his viewpoints. I don't agree with him on everything, but one thing I can count on from his humor: making me think about something in a way I never did before. Whether or not he changes my mind on the subject, he at least challenges me to think about it from another viewpoint. An example from this special is when he explained his thinking on Kerry v Bush (chess player v checkers player). I remain virulently opposed to our chimpanzee president and his policies and his personal vendetta against Iraq, but Miller made some interesting points that challenged my thinking.

I consider him a thinking man's comic, and I appreciate an entertainer who is willing to play to my intelligence, rather than insulting it. Perhaps that's where his detractors fall off the train; you do have to be able to keep up with him. This special stands up with his previous work and is well worth the attention of any Dennis Miller fan.

Dennis Miller goes all in with his trademark barbed humor
Woodyanders31 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
One can always depend on Dennis Miller to pull zero punches and take a strong side on certain divisive issues. Miller certainly doesn't disappoint with this often hilarious and frequently edgy hour long show that he did in Las Vegas back in 2006: Miller openly admits that he isn't entirely sold on global warming, goes to bat for George W. Bush on a few things, and comes out as all for gay marriage. Moreover, Miller's gut-busting comments on obese people at Walmart, Bill Clinton's marriage of convenience to Hillary, the increasingly large number of people who have tattoos, and female teachers hooking up with students have lost none of their sting. Granted, some of the jokes about politicians haven't dated well, but overall there's a lot of funny stuff to relish here.
