Many elements of Metropolis coincide with elements in the comics, including the recurring fast-food franchise of "Big Belly Burger" and the Hob's Bay subsection, affectionately known as "Suicide Slum".
The video game was released long after the movie had been out in theaters due to polishing and technical issues. Instead it was released around the same time as the DVD and received mostly mediocre reviews. It was also one of the few video game tie-ins for a movie that did not release on every console at the time. This could be due to licensing or technical restraints.
The game was released on PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, GameBoy Advance, and mobile. While the PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 ports played the same, the 360 port featured better and more crisp graphics. The DS port followed the story closest, but followed the structure of a mini game compilation title. The mobile port was a search and rescue title and the GameBoy port was a sudoku clone.
