- The Doctor: So when it comes right down to it. Why did you come here? Why did you that? Why? I'll tell you why. Because it was there. Brilliant! Excuse me, er Zac wasn't it?
- Zachary Cross Flane: That's me.
- The Doctor: Just stand there cos I'm going to hug you. Is that alright?
- Zachary Cross Flane: Suppose so.
- The Doctor: Here we go. C'mon then
- [the Doctor hugs Zac]
- The Doctor: Human beings. You are amazing. Hah! Thank you.
- Zachary Cross Flane: Not at all.
- The Doctor: But apart from that you're completely mad. You should pack your bags, get back in that ship and fly for your lives.
- Rose: Can you build another Tardis?
- The Doctor: They were grown, not built. And with my home planet gone... we're kind of stuck
- Rose: Well, it could be worse; this lot said they'd give us a lift.
- The Doctor: And then what?
- Rose: I don't know. Find a planet, get a job, live a life, same as the rest of the universe.
- The Doctor: I'll have to settle down. With a house or something - a proper house with... with, with doors and things - carpets! Me! Living in a house!... Now that, that - that is terrifying.
- Rose: You'd have to get a mortgage!
- The Doctor: No!
- Rose: Oh yes!
- The Doctor: No, I'm dying, that's it, it is all over.
- Rose: What about me? I'd have to get one too!
- [pause]
- Rose: I don't know, we could have the same one, we could both... I don't know, share... or not. Whatever. I don't know, all sorts of...
- The Doctor: Anyway
- Rose: We'll see
- The Doctor: [pause] I promised Jackie I'd always take you back home
- Rose: Everyone leaves home in the end.
- The Doctor: Not to end up stuck here.
- Rose: Yeah, but stuck with you - that's not so bad.
- The Doctor: Yeah?
- Rose: Yes.
- [they watch Scooti's corpse drift toward the black hole]
- Mr. Jefferson: For how should man die better, than facing fearful odds, for the ashes of his father and the temples of his gods?
- The Ood: [possessed by the Beast] Some may call him Abaddon. Some may call him Krop Tor. Some may call him Satan. Or Lucifer. Or the King of Despair. The Deathless Prince. The Bringer of Night. And these are the words that shall set him free.
- The Doctor: Did you have to say that? 'There's no turning back?' That's almost as bad as 'Nothing could possibly go wrong' or 'This'll be the best Christmas Walford's ever had.'
- The Doctor: There we go, d'you see? To generate that gravity field and the funnel, you'd need a power source with an inverted self-extrapolating reflex of six to the power of six every six seconds.
- Rose: That's all the sixes.
- The Doctor: And it's impossible.
- Zachary Cross Flane: It took us two years to work that out!
- The Doctor: I'm very good.
- [first lines]
- The Doctor: I don't know what's wrong with her. She's sort of queasy. Indigestion, like she didn't want to land.
- Rose: [straight-faced] Oh, if you think there's gonna be trouble, we could always go back inside, and go somewhere else...
- [Rose cracks up, and they laugh outrageously]
- The Ood: We are the legion of the beast. The legion shall be many; and the legion shall be free. He has woven himself in the fabric of your life since the dawn of time.
- [the Doctor and Ida have come across the opening of the pit]
- The Doctor: It looks like some sort of seal or... I've got a horrible feeling the word is trapdoor. Not a good word trapdoor. Never met a trapdoor I liked.
- Zachary Cross Flane: Do you think it'll open?
- The Doctor: That's what trapdoors tend to do.
- [final line]
- The Beast: I have been imprisoned for an eternity; but no more. The pit is open; and I am free!
- [toby appears possessed by something]
- Mr. Jefferson: Stand down and be confined immediately!
- Toby Zed: Mr Jefferson, tell me sir, did your wife ever forgive you?
- Mr. Jefferson: I don't know what you mean.
- Toby Zed: Let me tell you a secret. She never did.
- Rose Tyler: But... if there's no atmosphere out there, what's that?
- Ida Scott: Storms breaking up... gas clouds... we have whole solar systems being ripped apart above our heads, before falling into that thing
- [black hole]
- Rose Tyler: So a bit worse than a storm, then?
- Ida Scott: Just a bit.
- Rose Tyler: It's funny... 'cause people back home think that space travel's gonna be all whizzing about... teleports and antigravity... but it's not is it? It's tough.
- Toby Zed: There was some form of civilization... they buried something. And now it's reaching out, calling.
- The Doctor: And you came.
- Ida Scott: How could we not?
- The Doctor: So, when it comes right down to it, why did you come here? Why did you do that? Why? I'll tell you why: Because it was there! Brilliant! Excuse me, uh, Zack, wasn't it?
- Zachary Cross Flane: That's me.
- The Doctor: Just stand there, 'cause I'm gonna hug you... Is that all right?
- Zachary Cross Flane: 'Spose so.
- The Doctor: Here we go. Coming in.
- [embraces Captain Crossflane]
- The Doctor: Ah! Human beings! You are amazing! Ha! Thank you.
- [releases the captain]
- Zachary Cross Flane: Not at all.
- The Doctor: But apart from that, you're completely mad. You should get back in that ship and fly for your lives.
- The Doctor: We found something. Some sort of seal, looks like it's some sort of metal. I've got a nasty feeling that the word is 'trapdoor.' Not a good word, 'trapdoor.' Never met a trapdoor I liked...
- Toby Zed: These are the words of The Beast and he has woken. He is the heart that beats in the darkness and he is the blood that will never cease. And now he will rise!
- Mr. Jefferson: Officer, you will stand down! Stand down!
- Toby Zed: Mr Jefferson tell me, sir? Did your wife ever forgive you?
- Mr. Jefferson: I don't know what you mean.
- Toby Zed: Let me tell you a secret... she never did!
- Mr. Jefferson: Officer, you *will* stand down and be confined!
- Toby Zed: Or what?
- Mr. Jefferson: Or, under the stretches of Condition Red, I am authorised to shoot you.
- Toby Zed: But how many can you kill?
