It’s something of an understatement to say that the work of poet and short story writer Edgar Allan Poe has had a lasting effect on the horror genre. Especially when it comes to horror cinema in particular. It’s not so long ago that we had the likes of P.O.E.: Poetry of Eerie and it’s sequel Project of Evil, David DeCoteaus’s The Pit and the Pendulum, and the animated anthology Extraordinary Tales; and now comes Tales of Poe – which adapts Poe’s short stories The Tell Tale Heart, Cask of Amontillado and Dreams.

Out now in select theaters and on iTunes is Extraordinary Tales, an animated film anthology adapting five Edgar Allan Poe stories and boasting a voice cast that includes late legends Sir Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi, as well as Julian Sands, Roger Corman, and Guillermo del Toro. For our latest Q&A feature, we caught up with director Raul Garcia to discuss his film's amazing vocal lineup and much more.
Thanks for taking the time to converse with us today, Raul. Based on the trailer for Extraordinary Tales, you obviously have a real passion for the works of Edgar Allan Poe. When did you first become a fan of his fiction?
Raul Garcia: Since a very early age, I was addicted to reading comic books and I especially loved horror comics. When I was 12 or so, I read Extraordinary Tales by Edgar Allan Poe, my first "grown up" book I ever read,...

Today is Vincent Price’s 104th Birthday! Price was born here in St. Louis on this date in 1911 and is the most iconic movie star to hail from our city. Price, who died October 25th 1993, was also a gourmand, author, stage actor, speaker, world-class art collector, raconteur, and all-around Renaissance man. Vincent Price was simply one of the most remarkable people of the 20th Century. Four years ago we had the opportunity to celebrate his 100th birthday and St. Louis was the place to do it. I teamed up with Cinema St. Louis to present Vincentennial, The Vincent Price 100th Birthday Celebration, an event that lasted through much of the Spring of 2011. The following year Vincentennial won two coveted Rondo Awards, one for “Best Fan Event” and a second for myself as “Monster Kid of the Year” for directing the event. The Rondo Awards are prestigious Fan Awards given out...

We first told you about Stuart Gordon and Jeffrey Combs' plans to bring their phenomenal Edgar Allan Poe stage play Nevermore to the big screen a while back, but now the two titans are hoping to see their project become a reality through a Kickstarter campaign.
According to the campaign page: Nevermore is set in 1848, a year after the death of Poe's beloved wife, Virginia (and a year before his own). He had become internationally famous as the author of The Raven and his Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque. But his fame did not provide fortune, and so he was constantly seeking financial security and respect from the literary establishment.
This is Poe in his own words. Our text is taken from his letters and essays, and we have based our evening on reviews and reports of his actual appearances. Our goal is to present a sense...

American author Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart"" novella, was first published in James Russell Lowell's "The Pioneer" story pamphlet, January 1843, following an unnamed narrator who insists on his sanity after killing an old man with a 'weird eye'.
Burying the man under the floorboards of a house, the narrator's guilt manifests itself in the hallucination that the man's heart is still beating under the floorboards.

Three photographs from the big screen adaption of Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell Tale Heart have been nabbed, giving us a little insight into the film's direction… Edgar Allan Poe is known for his supremacy over the macabre Gothic literature genre. Poe’s stories have been adapted numerous amounts of times, yet audiences never seem to get enough! The Tell Tale Heart is a typically chilling tale revolving around a murder. Once the murderer conceals the body of the victim underneath his floorboards, he is driven...

Boo! In this new miniseries, suggested by Robert Gannon, Team Film Experience will be exploring Oscar nominated or Oscar winning contributions from or related to the Horror Film genre. Happy Halloween Season!
Here Lies... The Tell Tale Heart. Its insistent beating was drowned to death by the cacophony of musical noise coming from the instruments of Walt Disney's Toot Whistle Plunk and Bloom which won the Best Animated Short Film Oscar for 1953.
What is more horrifying than a madman who thinks himself sane, like the narrator of Edgar Allan Poe's legendary horror story The Tell Tale Heart? I can actually name four.
1. That an Oscar nomination by no means makes your film easy to find for future generations. This is especially true of any nominations outside of Picture, and Acting. Have you ever tried to find all the nominated short films to watch from any given calender year? Shudder.

Over the course of his long writing career, Edgar Allan Poe wrote some pretty grisly stories. There was "The Pit and the Pendulum," in which a man is strapped to a table under a slowly-lowering swinging blade; "The Tell Tale Heart," which was about a murderer tortured by the sound of a beating organ; "The Murders In The Rue Morgue," in which is the tale of an orangutan who brutally killed two women; and many, many others. So what would happen if a murderer decided to start those ideas and bringing them to life? That's exactly the story behind James McTeigue's The Raven. The first trailer for the film has arrived online. You can check it out below or in HD over on Apple. Overall it's not a bad preview. The scream at the beginning is an interesting and immediate way to set the mood and at the very...

In what has to be one of the greatest genre stories in recent years, the horror genre’s most prolific writer, Edgar Allan Poe, will be given a royal ceremony beginning on October 7th with a public viewing of his body at the Poe house and continuing all the way to October 11th with a funeral procession and service.
Because there is so much fantastic information in this press release, I’m going to leave it as is. Be sure to check out Poe Bicentennial for even more information, and in the meantime get comfortable and read on! I so wish I could be there for this.

While Doug Bradley was recording the book-on-tape version of Clive Barker’s Mister B Gone (review), he had the thought that books on tape haven’t really advanced since their early cassette days, and he wanted to do something about it.
So “Doug Bradley’s Spine Chillers” was created, a series of readings of famous literature works performed by Doug Bradley, with visual accompaniment and a full soundtrack to enhance the experience. We just got word that the first of the “Spine Chillers” series, H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Outsider”, is now up the official site for Doug's production house, Renegade Arts, just waiting for you to come check it out.
You can learn more about the series, the next entry of which will be Poe’s “The Tell Tale Heart”, over on Doug’s site, or just click here for a three-minute sample of “The Outsider”!
