Better for an early episode

The host segments were what really made this episode. It's a pity I can't find a copy that shows the final segment. I assume it would have had something to do with Tom Servo at this typewriter. It makes sense as he talks about how he types with his feet. Never knew that about him. The quality is still pretty low, but this was a long time ago. I especially like Tom's flashbacks, particularly with Joel smoking. He even mentions that this is just how Tom perceives him.

The riffing itself seemed to be getting better. It's still nowhere as good as later in the series, but it's always nice to see how a show develops, particularly from a season that isn't even technically canon anymore. The bots seem to talk to each other more in this. I really did like Tom's "I also need affection" with Crow and Joel saying, "Don't look at me" and "Don't look at me either". They have a nice fourth wall break (or don't they always do that) as they mention taking the mystery and science out of it. One of the best early riffs was, "Gary Coleman -- in the case". ***
