Was rescheduled twice. Originally scheduled for September 16th, 2001, but was rescheduled for October 7th, 2001 due to the September 11th attacks. Shortly after E! began broadcasting from the Shrine Auditorium on the morning of October 7th, news outlets received word that the U.S. had begun air strikes in Afghanistan. E! stayed on the air for three hours, giving updates and ultimately the announcement that the 2001 Emmys were being rescheduled again. The ceremony was moved to the Shubert Theater, due to scheduling conflicts at The Shrine, and was finally broadcast on November 4th, 2001.
